It's a Hairy Situation!

The winter was really cold this year and it seems that in some places it is still not over! The cold weather and the clothes that we wear in the winter are rather harmful to our hair! Due to friction of hair against wool clothing and scarves the hair becomes more frizzy. Other than that these material suck the natural oils from our hair. The hair becomes dry and is prone to split ends.
Its time to treat your hair!!!

The easiest way is to make a quick oil remedy:
Olive oil (or coconut oil) or both used a a carrier oil combined with a few drops essential oil!
Other carrier oils for hair are jojoba, avocado, sweet almond, apricot kernel and castor oil, which of course you can use as well.
The essential oils that treat dry hair are:
Myrrh
Peppermint

If you have dry hair and dandruff then you should use following essential oils:
Cedarwood
Clary sage
Patchouli
Rosemary

And if you have dry hair and want to stimulate hair growth when treating it yo should use following essential oils:
Basil
Grapefruit
Peppermint
Rosemary
Sage
Thyme

You can do this (example):
1/4 cup of olive oil
1/4 cup of coconut oil
8 drops of Myrrh essential oil
Mix these ingredients and apply all over your hair whilst warm up a hair towel (I do it in the microwave for 2 minutes) If you find that too dangerous you can just warm up your oil and apply it the the hair when its warm. In either way wrap your hair in a towel and leave in the mask as long as it is possible for you that day! I usually repeat warming my towel several times and then I braid my hair and leave the mask until the next morning before washing it out! But even it you dedicate just half an hour of oil treatment to your hair it will make a difference.

Of course you can choose any carrier oils and essential oil combinations according to your hair needs!

Besides doing hair mask it is important to support your hair from within and that means proper nutrition, thus following products should be included in your diet:
Fish (such as salmon)
Poultry
Nuts
Green vegetables
Eggs
Whole grains
Beans

Don't forget to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, green tea and if you can natural pomegranate and cranberry juices as additional antioxidants!

Additional measures you should know about:
  • Avoid washing your hair every day because it removes natural oils
  • Braid your hair over night
  • Use soft scrunchy hair bands (as seen in picture on the left)
  • Use silky pillow cases to avoid friction
  • Avoid heat applications to your hair (such as curling and straigthening devices)

Hopefully these little tips will make your hairy situation a happy one!
Good luck!
Yours truly,
V.
